Structure Details
As the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken by the City of Victoria, the Johnson Street Bridge replacement provides an improved connection into the city’s central business, entertainment and tourism districts. The new bridge is the largest single-leaf bascule bridge in Canada spanning 150-feet (46 m).
Project Highlights
- More than 50-percent of the bridge deck accommodates pedestrian and cycling traffic with varying degrees of protective guarding supplied and installed by Marcon.
- The pedestrian handrail system features an integrated LED design. This was engineered and fabricated by Marcon using 2D and 3D cutting and channeling methods to embed light strips within the handrail for improved protection from wear and weathering.
- Marcon machined all expansion joint and bearing assemblies, taking additional consideration of drawbridge abutments and counterweight requirements.
