Douglas Coupland’s Rock Garden at The Telford is a bold reimagining of the traditional Zen garden—transformed into a vibrant, sculptural landscape that reflects Coupland’s signature fusion of pop culture and conceptual art.
The installation features an array of abstract rock forms, poles, each meticulously fabricated finished in a palette of 56 custom colors. Embedded throughout are a shimmering gold “nugget” that catch the light and add playful contrast.
The project was a design-build collaboration involving the artists, landscape architect to ensure the sculptural elements were both visually compelling and structurally sound for permanent outdoor display.
From early concept sketches to full-scale mock-ups, every detail was considered—from the poles height and diameter to the precision color-matching process.
Rock Garden stands as both a technical achievement and a joyful expression of color, form, and place.
